2009 Current HighlightsBrent Dlugach was called up to the Major Leagues on September 1st with the Detroit Tigers. Andy Simunic (Collierville HS, University of Tennessee) was named "Definsive Player for July" for the entire Houston Astros minor league organization. On August 8, he was promoted to the advanced "A" affiliate in Lancaster, CA.Brent Dlugach (Toledo Mudhens AAA Detroit Tigers) leads the team in RBI and had 2 HR's on 7/1 to keep a 14 game hitting streak going. Brent was named to the International League AAA All Star Team. Sam Moll (St. Benedict HS) was named a finalist for the Commercial Appeal's "Best of the Preps" Player of the Year. Nine regular hitters made the Commercial Appeal's "Best of the Preps" team. Seven other members of that team have attended the Batter's Box hitting workshop in the past. Players who regularly work with us started for these teams at the TSSAA state baseball championship (May 19-24): Collierville HS - 7 starters CBHS - 3 starters St.Benedict - 4 starters F.A.C.S. - 2 starters Tipton Rosemark - 2 startersThe following have been named to the Tennessee Baseball Report "Super Sophomore Team" for the entire State: Justin Kemp - Germantown High School Tucker Tubbs - Collierville High School Tyler Dailey - Collierville High School Wilson Prestage - Tipton Rosemark High School Tucker Tubbs (Collierville HS) was named to the All-Tournament Team at the 8-State SunBelt Tourney in Oklahoma. Senior Michael Vinson led DeSoto Central in hitting with a .461 average and was named 2nd team All-State in Mississippi. Brent Dlugach (Houston HS, University of Memphis) hit 2 homeruns on April 22 for the AAA Toledo Mud Hens (Detroit Tigers). He's hitting .319 as of 5/3. Devin Hicks (Bartlett High School) hit .350 for the University of the Cumberlands and is 2nd in the Mid South Conference with 16 homeruns. Andy Simunic (Collierville High School, University of Tennessee) was promoted to Class A Lexington in the Houston Astros organization. Andy is hitting over .300 after his first 10 games. Daniel Hill (Houston High School) is hitting .342 for Murray State and is 2nd in homeruns in the Ohio Valley Conference with 13 as of 5/3. Laura Litton (Collierville High School) was 6-8 with 8 RBI and a pair of HR's for Millsaps College in their sweep of Sewanee on 4/18. Zach Miller (Houston High School) is hitting .340 with 4 homeruns for Ole Miss Grant Box (CBHS) is hitting .329 for MTSU. Brent Dlugach has been named starting shortstop for the AAA (Detroit Tigers) Toledo Mudhens. Daniel Hill, Murray State University (formerly of Houston HS) was named "National Player of the Week" for March 14-21 by Lousiville Slugger and Collegiatge Baseball Magazine. He had 5 HR's, two 2B's, 18 RBI and 18 hits in six games that week. Zack Miller homered and had 4 RBI in 3 game series against Kentucky. He's hitting .326 for the season. Devin HIcks, University of Cumberlands (formerly of Bartlett HS) is leading the Mid-South Conference with 13 HR's in 33 games and is hitting .368. As of April 6, there have been 36 HR's hit by varsity players at 6 local high schools (3 public and 3 private). 28 of the 36 have been hit by Batter's Box hitters. Trey Wiedman leads the University of Memphis in hitting with a .340 batting average. Devine (Arlington HS) signed with Southwest TN Community College Daniel Hill (Houston HS, Southwest TN CC) signed with Murray State University Brooke Davis (Southaven HS) signed with Christian Brothers University Matt Lewis (Amory HS, Itawamba CC) University of Arkansas-Monticello Leigh Tedford (Southaven HS) signed with Northwest Mississippi CC Jordan Wakefield (Collierville HS, Southwest TN CC) signed University of North Alabama Devin Hicks (Bartlett HS, Ole MS, SWTN CC) University of Cumberland, won the home run derby at the Boise (ID) Summer Collegiate League All Star Game with 24 homeruns Matt Milligan (Collierville HS) signed with the University of Tennessee Martin Alex Jackson (Milan HS) signed with Bethel College Mason Garrett (Milan HS) signed with Lambuth College Hunter Dawson (Munford HS, MTSU) playing with the Fulton (KY) Railroaders in the Ken-Tenn Collegiate Summer League, named to the All-Star team Andy Simunic (Collierville HS, University of Tennessee) was a 17th round draft pick of the Houston Astros and is now playing Class A for them in New York.2007 Zach Miller of Ole Miss was named to the Louisville Slugger "Freshman All-American Team" by Collegiate Baseball magazine. Cole Shelton of Dyersburg CC has signed with Alabama after hitting .423 and being third in Tennessee CC's with 14 HR's. Andy Simunic continues to lead UT in hitting with .354 BA as of May 6. He's also 2nd in the SEC in stolen bases and 2nd in triples. Grant Box of MTSU doubled in the 8th inning on April 17th to drive in the wining run against number one ranked Vanderbilt. Freshman Zach Miller hit back to back HR's for Ole Miss against Georgia on April 6th. As of May 1st, he's the 3rd leading hitter (.377) for the Rebels after 46 games. Freshman Josh Shelton of Christian Brothers University is the 2nd leading hitter after 52 games with a .357 BA. He was named "Freshman of the Year" by the Gulf South Conference. As of May 1, Brent Dlugach leads both the AA Erie Seawolves (Detroit Tigers) in BA at .306 and the Eastern League in triples with 3. Brent Dlugach had 3 hits including a homerun for the Detroit Tigers against the Phillies on March 11. Emily Deaux was named to her second "All Tournament Team" this season with a grand slam home run for Samford University in the Birmingham "Bulldog Bash" Tourney. Emily Deaux, Samford University outfielder and former Collierville star was named to the "All-Tournament Team" at the Florida State University softball tournament in February. Brent Dlugach has been invited to work with the major league players at spring training with the Detroit Tigers. Brooke Davis from Southhaven HS received the award for the "highest batting average" at the National Softball Championships held in Hawaii in December.2006 November 2006 - Andy Simunic has been named the starting left fielder at the University of Tennessee by head coach Rod Delmonico. On September 4, the Detroit Tigers promoted Brent Dlugach to their Triple A Toledo Mudhen ball club as starting shortstop. As of August 1st, 10 current hitters have received scholarships for the Fall ... 5 to junior colleges and 5 to four-year schools (2 at Division I). The Detroit Tigers promoted Brent Dlugach to their "Advanced Class A" team in Lakeland, Florida. As of July 24, he was batting 3rd in the line-up with 4 homeruns for the year. At the end of the Spring high school season, we had 4 hitters finish with the highest batting average on their varsity team ... 3 others finished 2nd at their school. Former Collierville High School standout, Muriel Ledbetter, led MTSU in 4 offensive categories and was named Sunbelt Conference "Player of the Week" in March. One of our 6-year hitters from Munford HS was named District 13 AAA "Player of the Year." Nine hitters were named to the Commercial Appeal "Best of the Preps" team. Six-year hitter Andy Simunic led the nation in stolen bases for Chattanooga State JC, hit .432, was named team MVP and has committed to the University of Tennessee for 2006-7. 2005 Former Southaven standout and University of Memphis signee Brach Davis was named "Most Valuable Offensive Player" at the Mississippi High School All-Star game.Detroit Tigers minor leaguer Brent Dlugach was named to the class "A" Midwest League All-Star Team and went 2 for 2 in the All-Star game held in Peoria, IL.Longtime senior hitter Matt Lewis, who was "Most Valuable Player" at Amory HS in Amory, MS, has been awarded one of only two "Dizzy Dean Baseball Association" college scholarships given in the state of Mississippi. In the four State tournament games for Tennessee's "AAA" State Champion Houston HS, four of our hitters had a total of 25 hits!Of the nine high school seniors working regularly, 7 have received Division I scholarships and one other walked-on and made the team at a Division I school. Five of the above were also ranked in the Commercial Appeal's top 15 prospects in the Mid-South. Former Collierville High standout and current Chattanooga State CC player Andy Simunic, was named "Tennessee Junior College Player of the Week" after going 7-11 with 6 RBI the week of March 20th. 2005 is the eighth straight year that one of our girls has won the "Golden Bat Award" as the leading hitter for the Collierville Dragons Softball program.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2004 Former Munford star and UT Martin Captain and centerfielder, Angela Baize was invited to the Women's Professional Softball League tryout. Angela led UT Martin in home runs in 2004.University of Memphis and former Houston High School shortstop Brent Dlugach, was drafted in the sixth round by the Detroit Tigers and signed in June. Brent led the U of M in 5 offensive categories in 2004 including home runs. Brent has worked with Dr. Sumner continuously since 1999. At the TSSAA state baseball and softball championships in 2004, we had 27 players on 9 teams from the surrounding area.Also, 9 of 12 high school seniors who hit regularly accepted scholarships; 5 in Division I, 1 NAIA, and 3 at Junior Colleges. One JC player accepted a scholarship to the University of Memphis. Of the three remaining high school seniors, 2 were offered scholarships, but decided to forego playing baseball to concentrate on academics at their respective colleges.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2003 Four of five seniors received scholarships to play college baseball or softball. As of January 2004, three of nine seniors have accepted Division I scholarships, one has been offered a Division II scholarship, and three others have been contacted by junior colleges and 4-year schools. In addition, 2 more individuals have received offers of scholarships to junior college programs. Also, this December a Houston High School junior was named "Most Valuable Hitter" at the Ole Miss hitting camp.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2002 Several long-time hitters were honored......one achieved the coveted Memphis Commercial Appeal's "Best of the Preps Softball Player of the Year" award.....one from Mississippi State and one from the University of Memphis were named to the Collegiate Baseball/Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American Team.....and one from Southwest Tennessee Community College was named to the "All-State" junior college team.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2001 Seven Shelby County private and public baseball and softball teams made it to the Tennessee State Championships in Chattanooga during the month of May....25 hitters on 6 of the 7 teams....boys and girls....have gone through the workshops and worked regularly over the past 2 years! Of the seven senior high school hitters who worked within 2000-2001, one led Shelby County in hits and doubles and accepted a Div. 1 scholarship, one was both drafted by the pros and offered a scholarship, one accepted a scholarship to JC and one led his team in hitting at the State Championships with a .500 batting average. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1999-2000 Ten high school senior baseball players who worked with me on a regular basis. One led state champion CBHS in hitting and another led Shelby County in home runs.
